In my opinion, a degree and intelligence are not the same thing. A degree shows the field in which a person has studied and the kind of formal knowledge he has received. But having a degree does not necessarily mean that the person is intelligent.

A person studies a subject, learns many things, gives examinations, answers questions and receives a certificate. That certificate tells us that the person has studied that particular field. But whatever a person has studied, it is not necessary that everything will always remain in his memory. And even if he remembers it, it is also not necessary that he will be able to use all that knowledge correctly when a real situation comes in front of him.

Why Experience Matters

This is where, according to me, experience becomes more important.

When a person actually does some work, he faces many different situations. Sometimes the work does not happen as expected. Sometimes he makes mistakes. Sometimes he does not know what to do. Then he tries different ways, understands what went wrong and gradually learns from it.

For me, this experience is a kind of real education.

Reading about a work and actually doing that work are not exactly the same thing. Books can give us knowledge about something, but when we actually do the work, we understand many things through our own experience. This experience gradually makes a person better at his work and takes him towards becoming a master in his field.

What Is Intelligence?

But intelligence is something different from both a degree and experience.

I believe intelligence is seen when a person gets stuck in a situation and does not understand how to solve it. At that time, if he tries to understand the situation, thinks about it logically, looks at it from different sides and tries different methods until he finds a successful solution, then I consider that a sign of intelligence.

Sometimes the idea or solution does not come from a book or from another person. It comes from the person's own mind. In my view, the ability to produce a logical and useful idea through your own thinking is also one form of intelligence.

Can a Person Without a Degree Be More Intelligent?

That is why I believe a person without a degree can also be more intelligent than a highly educated person.

An educated person may have specific knowledge about a particular field, but it is not necessary that he will always be able to solve every new situation related to that field. An intelligent person tries to understand the situation from a logical and practical point of view and then finds a suitable solution.

For me, an intelligent person is the one who understands the situation and finds the right solution. Whether it is life or work, every field brings different situations in front of us, and ultimately, the ability to find the right solution takes a person towards success.

Intelligent People Also Make Mistakes

But this does not mean that an intelligent person never makes mistakes.

An intelligent person also makes mistakes because the human mind is not developed enough to observe and understand every situation in the world. No person can know everything.

There are countless things and situations in this world. A person can observe many of them, understand many of them and gain knowledge and experience from them, but he cannot understand everything in one lifetime. A person's life has a limit, but the number of things and situations in the world has no such limit.

How Knowledge and Experience Develop Intelligence

This is also why I think intelligence itself develops through knowledge and experience. We gain knowledge by learning, observing and understanding things. We gain experience by actually going through situations and doing things. As knowledge and experience increase, a person can understand situations in a better way and make better decisions.

So, making a mistake does not mean that a person is unintelligent. What matters is whether he understands his mistake and learns something from it. If a person accepts his mistake, understands why it happened and tries to find a better way next time, then that mistake becomes a part of his experience.

Degree, Experience and Intelligence Are Three Different Things

For this reason, I see degree, experience and intelligence as three different things. A degree represents formal education and knowledge in a particular field.

Experience comes from actually doing the work, facing situations and learning from them. And intelligence is the ability to understand a situation, think logically, use what you know and find a suitable solution.

What Real Intelligence Actually Means

A degree can be given to you in the form of a certificate, but intelligence cannot be measured simply by a certificate. It is visible in the way a person thinks, understands things, deals with problems and finds solutions.

So, I don't think we should judge a person's intelligence only by looking at his degree. A degree can tell us what a person has studied, but it cannot tell us everything about how that person thinks.

For me, real intelligence is not about knowing everything. It is about understanding what you know, understanding what you don't know, learning from experience, and using your own thinking to find the right way when a situation demands it.
